EFX – Expo for Electronics Manufacturing – is set to launch in October 2026 and will be focusing on the entire value chain of electronics manufacturing and the synergies this creates over any single technology or market segment.

Stuttgart will welcome companies from the entire electronics manufacturing industry – those involved in components and printed circuit boards, integrated circuit packaging (in particular, SMT and THT processes) and advanced packaging, materials, testing and inspection processes, software and smart manufacturing as well as Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS). The event is aiming to highlight the synergies created along the entire process chain and encourage dialogue that reaches beyond current boundaries.

The industry is indeed well connected, however, often only within clearly defined structures. For many of the challenges faced today, involving resilience, stable supply chains and technological sovereignty, this is no longer enough. EFX therefore seeks to provide a space in which the entire value chain has the chance to meet.

Miniaturisation driving change – increasing demands on the overall system

One key factor driving electronics manufacturing remains the advance of miniaturisation: components down to 01005, as well as initial applications of even smaller dimensions, allow for high packing densities, yet are increasing requirements along the entire process chain. From layout, soldering paste printing and placement accuracy to inspection and testing – what results are close interactions managed only through synchronised efforts.

Smart manufacturing: Data combining processes

Another highlight will be digitalisation and networking in production. Data collected from inspections, testing and machinery is set to be increasingly integrated and comprehensively evaluated for greater stability in processes, the faster identification of causes and better efficiency in line operation.

Electronics manufacturers are investing in automated and digitally networked production environments to make this happen – from integrated line control and automated material logistics to continuous data usage. Competitive advantages are being increasingly gained from the ability to comprehensively understand and control processes.

“SEF Smart Electronic Factory e.V. will be presenting a continuous digital process chain in electronics manufacturing at EFX this year – one supported by AI and encompassing the entire value stream, from order through to delivery,” says Gerd Ohl, First Chairman of SEF Smart Electronic Factory e.V. “Together with several member companies, we will be demonstrating how ERP, MES and supply chain data is continuously linked, processes automatically controlled and employees supported by AI-based assistance systems along the entire production chain.”

Specialist programme: Less product presentation, more personal exchange

The EFX accompanying programme has been thoughtfully curated and goes beyond the classic product presentations. Specialist talks, discussion panels and startup pitches will be highlighting key topics such as:

  • Artificial intelligence in manufacturing
  • Supply chain resilience
  • Cyber security
  • Circular economy

Chiplet technologies and modern procurement strategies will also come under the spotlight – from predictive maintenance approaches to automated error analysis and optimised supply chain control. The aim is to promote the discussion of strategic industry issues. Programme formats such as the Guided Tours and themed highlights exploring digitalisation, sustainability and automation will provide visitors with practical insights into these synergies.

Soldering technology and quality in the context of the entire line

There will be a specific focus on classic process areas such as soldering technology in the context of the entire production line. Soldering processes and materials largely determine process stability and the reliability of electronic components. Even slight deviations in the process window can have a direct impact on quality and failure rates. Exhibitors will be demonstrating how soldering technology, materials, inspections and testing combine to synergise and benefit production stability.

“For us, as a manufacturer of soldering material, it is essential to assess the soldering processes in the overall context of manufacturing – including printed circuit boards, components, suitable solder and flux, as well as downstream inspection and testing processes,” explains Matthias Eymann, Application Engineer at FELDER GmbH Löttechnik. “At EFX, we will be discussing how process windows, material choices and quality assurance can be optimally coordinated.”

EMS: A link in the value chain

Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) play a special role at EFX: they handle the production of electronic assemblies and systems for their customers – from prototype manufacturing to stable series production – integrating components, processes and technologies into fully functioning overall solutions. This makes them the key alternative to in‑house production and an essential factor in make‑or‑buy decisions on the customer side.

Representing a link between development, production and the supply chain, EMS are involved in processes along the entire value chain and will be illustrating the synergies created here. EFX is providing EMS with a platform on which to showcase this exact role in direct exchange with technology providers, partners and customers.

Electronics manufacturing first-hand: Process chain of a 48 V motor generator in a vehicle

Special show formats at EFX will also be highlighting the process chain of electronics manufacturing: the EFX Rally will lead visitors through individual process steps accompanied by short videos across several stations. In the EFX Academy, the interaction of all components will be demonstrated in detail using a vehicle with 48 V motor generator and inverter. This will serve to highlight how the various technologies and process steps are coordinated and the influence that electronics has on the functionality, design and performance of modern applications.

About EFX:
EFX, Expo for Electronics Manufacturing, is the new industry event for electronics manufacturing and will take place every two years in Stuttgart. In a region where microelectronics has become a key industry, EFX will feature the latest trends, technologies and solutions. Its concept combines an exhibition, networking and events to create a modern business format in an innovative design. The EFX programme will cover the entire electronics manufacturing process chain – with special emphasis on advancing miniaturisation: from components and printed circuit boards to packaging and testing, the initial idea through to the finished application. The three-day exhibition will celebrate its première in Stuttgart from 6 to 8 October 2026.
