Quasys AG is presenting the new JTF3 G3 tray feeder at this year’s productronica in Munich. The new feeder generation features a maximum tray weight of 1.8 kg, making it ideal for applications where heavy or large components such as AI chips need to be placed.

In electronics manufacturing, components with special housing shapes or sensitive structures are often provided in trays. These include high-performance ICs, BGAs, QFPs or sensitive components that cannot be processed in belts or rods. Tray feeders automatically feed these components and ensure a continuous supply to the placement machines. Quasys has now developed a new generation of feeder, the JTF3 G3, for the latest generation of large and heavy SMD components and will be presenting it at productronica in Munich.

The JTF3 G3 combines precision, efficiency and safety in a compact tray feeder system. ‘Developed for standard JEDEC trays, it impresses with its space-saving design and is therefore also suitable for manufacturing environments with limited space,’ says Rolf Nussbaumer, Managing Director of Quasys AG, introducing the new feeder. The JTF3 G3 feeder features a compact design with a width of only 176 mm. ‘This saves valuable feeder space in the placement machines of various manufacturers,’ Nussbaumer continues.

In addition, a positioning accuracy of ±50 µm for the fed components ensures consistently high assembly quality. With a loading height of 300 mm and cycle times of only 5–6 seconds, the new feeder generation enables high productivity. ‘To achieve this, the feeder is equipped with a new lift system,’ says Nussbaumer. The robust mechanics allow the use of magazines weighing up to 30 kg. The maximum tray weight is 600 g, but can be optionally extended to 1.8 kg. The JTF3 G3 is designed for JEDEC 322.6 x 135.9 mm trays. Gen1 magazines can also be used. A total of up to 24 trays can be stored in the magazine.

The JTF3 G3 can be seamlessly integrated into existing assembly systems or production lines in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing via interfaces such as TCP/IP, UDP or RS232. In addition, high safety standards ensure reliable operation in accordance with current standards and guidelines, such as EN ISO 13849. The feeder is equipped with safety sensors on the door that immediately stop the lift system if the door is opened during operation. This not only protects employees but also prevents the sometimes sensitive components from falling out.

The use of Quasys tray feeders reduces manual intervention in assembly and other manufacturing processes, shortens process times and prevents handling errors. The feeders can be used in automatic placement machines, for separation, in component programming devices, test handlers, die bonders or for inspection. They contribute to the careful handling of sensitive components and thus support both high placement quality and overall productivity in modern semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

As a specialised supplier, Quasys is a key player in the field of tray feeder technology. With over 25 years of experience and more than 2,900 tray stackers and random access feeder systems sold, Quasys has established in-depth expertise and broad market experience. Quasys is shaping the development of modern tray feeders with a wide range of products, from JEDEC stackers to heavy-duty feeder solutions, combined with technological expertise, manufacturing quality and innovative strength.

The Swiss specialist will be presenting its entire portfolio at productronica in Munich, in Hall A3, Stand 170.
