AAF International, a member of the Daikin Group, and global leader in air filtration solutions, today announced the U.S. launch of its cutting-edge AstroSorb® AMC filter product line, specifically designed to address the critical challenge of Airborne Molecular Contamination (AMC) in high-precision environments.
The AstroSorb® AMC filtration portfolio uses advanced gas-phase filtration technology with specialized activated carbon and chemical media to effectively remove harmful airborne molecular contaminants that can compromise manufacturing processes, product quality, and human health.
“As we move from microns to nanometers in semiconductor manufacturing, the growing effects of chemical contamination are of great concern, requiring even tighter AMC control,” said Chris Muller, Global Director, High Purity Segment—Gas Phase, AAF International. “These challenges can impact their most critical manufacturing processes and bottom lines.”
Developed primarily for semiconductor manufacturing facilities, laboratories, and cleanrooms, the five distinct products in the AstroSorb family offer tailored solutions for removing acids, bases, volatile organics, and dopants from makeup and recirculating air handling systems, fan filter units (FFUs), process tool filters, and other applications ensuring optimal protection for sensitive processes and environments.
AstroSorb-B: A box-style chemical filter designed to remove AMC in makeup air units (MAUs) and outside air conditioning (OAC) units. (pictured in header).
AstroSorb-C: A canister-style chemical filter for MAUs and OAC units, featuring a plastic canister containing a one-inch-thick bed of chemical media.
AstroSorb-P: A panel-style chemical filter ideal for fan-filter units (FFUs) upstream of HEPA/ULPA filters, cleanroom ceilings, reticle and wafer stockers, minienvironments, and process equipment.
AstroSorb-T: A tray-type chemical filter designed for MAUs and OAC units. Filled with bulk granular chemical filtration media and installed in a front/rear access cell, it can be customized with various proprietary media to target specific or multiple AMC types.
AstroSorb-V: A V-Bank chemical filter for MAUs, recirculating air units (RAUs), or OAC units.
Each of these product models filter gases such as ammonia and amines, acids (HF, HCl, Cl2, NOx, SOx, H2S), VOCs (e.g., toluene, PGME, PGMEA, siloxanes), and ozone, among others. AstroSorb products are manufactured using cleanroom-compatible materials that do not emit dopants, metals, organics, or other molecular contaminants at levels that would pose a risk to cleanroom processes.
“The AstroSorb line removes contaminants while protecting product yields, preventing costly rework, and ensuring consistent quality in environments where even microscopic impurities can mean the difference between success and failure,” continues Muller. “This technology represents a comprehensive solution to a complex challenge that affects every aspect of precision manufacturing.”
The complete AstroSorb product line is available in multiple sizes for each product type. Visit here for more information about the AstroSorb line and AAF’s comprehensive range of gas-phase filtration solutions.
