Interference or malfunctions caused by electromagnetic interference (EMI) are potentially safety-critical, particularly in the automotive sector. Interference can not only lead to false alarms in safety functions such as the airbag system, brake assistance or steering, but also to dangerous malfunctions. This is why the EMC test (electromagnetic compatibility) is an indispensable measure, especially in the automotive sector, to ensure that electronic components in vehicles work reliably and safely under real conditions.

GOEPEL electronic has developed a new type of EMC chamber solution especially for automotive test applications. This EMC housing makes it possible to carry out shielded measurements and tests when testing a single control unit. This allows the high data rates of the signals to be taken into account and the supply lines to the control unit to be kept as short as possible. The special absorber material used for the enclosure serves to reduce unwanted electromagnetic constructive and destructive interference. Other technical shielding measures include galvanic isolation from the mains, mains filters, earthing options and shielded cables.

GÖPEL electronic’s in-house communication controllers can be used for automotive bus systems. These are based on the Series 62 hardware platform and implement the residual bus simulations required for vehicle components on the basis of the AUTOSAR standard. The hardware platform is characterized in particular by the high performance and flexibility of the channel configuration.

A server-based API is used to control the correspondingly implemented hardware in the test system. This already contains a library that offers and displays commands for executing functions as well as specific tests in connection with the hardware integrated in the test system. Due to the abstraction layer that forms the API, the control for any software and hardware can be extended by GOEPEL electronic’s own or third-party hardware. Various measurement results can be retrieved and included on a database basis with corresponding logging.

The EMC chamber for the automotive industry is now available from GOEPEL electronic.
