Celanese will introduce an advanced Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) thick film ink for the growing automotive electric film heater market with its partner Alper during SMTconnect 2023.Conference exhibits are held from May 9-11 in Nuremberg, Germany.

The new Micromax™ PTC085 thick film ink exhibits high thermal and power stability, adhesive compatibility, defined cut-off temperature and high PTC effect. Heaters with PTC effect are self-limiting and do not require additional temperature control accessories. Energy savings of up to 15 percent compared with non-PTC heaters are possible. The new product has potential automotive interior applications that include seat and arm rest heaters, vision system heaters and thermal management of lithium-ion battery packs.

“This innovative new offering features a range of superior technical properties to meet the evolving demands of the automotive industry,” said Peter Weigand, global automotive segment manager, Celanese Micromax™ Electronic Inks and Paste. “We are excited to introduce Micromax™ PTC085 carbon ink globally and appreciate our collaboration with Alper to bring this product to market.”

The new product also has utility beyond the automotive industry.

“The applications for the new Micromax™ PTC085 carbon ink are really many, from automotive to industrial and household appliances, and even more,” said Guido Alessi, CEO of Alper. “We have tested this PTC ink with great satisfaction. The ink does what it promises. It demonstrates optimum performance in the stability of heating PET foils and aligns with the design parameters of the end product. This is a very important characteristic that allows us to be a reliable maker in this innovative market sector.”
