Industrial robots demonstrate productivity-boosting solutions to common manufacturing challenges.
Yamaha Motor Robotics FA Section has shown its portfolio of industrial robots in action at Motek 2022, illustrating affordable, fast, accurate, and flexible automation for light assembly and packaging.
“Our team of experts spoke to many visitors throughout the event to explain how our reliable, compact and high-performing industrial robots can raise manufacturing productivity beyond the levels that can be achieved using conventional approaches,” said Jumpei Ninomiya, Sales Manager, Yamaha Motor Europe Robotics Business, Factory Automation Section.
Among the live demonstrations presented at the Yamaha booth, multiple programmable LCMR200 linear conveyor modules showed how a compact and efficient assembly cell can be setup and quickly reconfigured as production requirements change. The LCMR200 ensures complete flexibility by allowing direction, speed, acceleration, and stop positions to be electronically programmed. Its ±5µm positioning accuracy and extreme stability allow performing assembly processes directly on the conveyor without removing the workpiece, to simplify the assembly-cell design and improve the effective process cycle time.
Yamaha’s fast and reliable SCARA robots were also in action, including the affordable YK-XE SCARA series. These robots make flexible, high-speed automation accessible to small and medium-sized businesses and are available in sizes from 400mm to 710mm arm length and with payload capability from 4kg to 10kg. At Motek, Yamaha connected the YK-XE with the Asyril Asycube parts feeder, using the software plugin developed jointly by Yamaha and Asyril. Also integrating Yamaha’s RCXiVY2+ high-speed vision system, the YK-XE and Asycube showed how to quickly sort bulk components and orientate them accurately for packing or palletizing.
A second example, featuring a SCARA and cartesian robot working together to deposit adhesive with high accuracy, showed how factory owners can accelerate processes such as bonding, sealing, and filling. The opportunity to raise output and reduce errors boosts productivity when making products as diverse as consumer electronics, lithium batteries, pharmaceuticals, and automotive parts.
The booth also presented Yamaha’s Robonity single-axis robots and competitively priced motor-less actuators, which are ideal for transport, feeding, and general process automation. Available with stroke length up to 1100mm and excursion speed up to 2400mm/s, their minimal width, high strength and rigidity, and low centre of gravity save space and enhance repeatability.
Emphasising how the robots are easy to setup and use, Yamaha displayed the RCX-Studio 2020 graphical robot-programming software, software toolkit for RCX3 series controllers, and Robonity controller with offline configuration and real-time performance-monitoring tools.
