Seika Machinery, Inc., a leading provider of advanced machinery, materials and engineering services, will present the fifth session of its SMI 2026 Summer Webinar Series on Wednesday, August 19 at 10 a.m. PST. “Introducing McDry Dry Cabinets for Safe Storage of MSDs and Prevention of Moisture-Related Issues,” the webinar will feature EVP Michelle Ogihara, who will provide an in-depth product presentation on McDry dry cabinets and their role in protecting moisture-sensitive devices (MSDs).
The presentation will examine the importance of controlling moisture exposure throughout the electronics manufacturing process, particularly for printed circuit boards and moisture-sensitive components. Absorbed moisture can rapidly expand during reflow, potentially contributing to warpage, delamination, popcorning, soldering defects and other forms of physical damage. Proper dry storage can help reduce rework, scrap and avoidable production downtime.
During the webinar, Ogihara will introduce the McDry Electronic Dry Storage Cabinet product line and its approach to maintaining controlled humidity for MSDs and other moisture-sensitive materials. McDry cabinets maintain 1% RH and use a powerful moisture-absorbent desiccant system, eliminating the need for nitrogen. The systems are designed to conform to IPC-J-STD-033D, IPC-1602 and ESD IEC 61340-5-1 industry standards.
The presentation will also explain how McDry drying units use a zeolite desiccant to remove humidity from the cabinet chamber. Moisture absorbed by the desiccant is vaporized and released outside the cabinet, while the desiccant is automatically recycled to provide continued dehumidification without requiring replacement.
In addition to standard dry storage configurations, the webinar will highlight available McDry options, including data logging and moisture-sensitive device control software. The data logging system provides cloud-based data storage, multiple-unit monitoring, scheduled reporting, and alerts when temperature or humidity conditions move outside specified parameters. MSD tracking capabilities can also help manufacturers manage component locations, inventory and exposure time based on applicable J-STD-033 requirements.
“Moisture management is an important part of maintaining consistent electronics manufacturing quality,” said Michelle Ogihara, EVP of Seika Machinery, Inc. “This session is designed to give manufacturers a practical look at the risks associated with moisture exposure and how controlled dry storage can fit into an effective MSD handling and storage strategy.”
The webinar will conclude with a live Q&A session, giving attendees an opportunity to ask questions about MSD storage, moisture control and McDry dry cabinet solutions.
McDry dry cabinets have been sold and supported by Seika Machinery in North America for more than 25 years and are used across electronics manufacturing applications, including EMS, automotive, medical, aerospace and military electronics.
