In the precision-driven world of electronics manufacturing, incoming goods registration represents a critical supply chain bottleneck. CompControl IT-Service und Vertriebs GmbH, a holistic logistics solutions provider in Gersfeld, Germany, has engineered the definitive solution: WEControlDOME.
WEControlDOME is an intelligent goods receiving station powered by cutting-edge imaging from SVS-Vistek, complete with intelligent lens control capabilities that adapt to variable container geometries in real-time. It performs comprehensive data extraction and verification without human intervention—capturing order items, article types, quantities, batch numbers, and manufacturer information through advanced barcode and plain text analysis. WEControlDOME verifies this data against supplier records for accuracy, preventing delays and enabling transparent tracking from receipt to storage.
WEControlDOME automatically verifies the captured data against manufacturer specifications, as well as executes receipt posting to merchandise management and ERP systems, and enables optional automatic container labeling with full photographic documentation.
Inbound Logistics Challenge
Electronics manufacturers face an unforgiving operational reality. Manual recording of incoming goods into a warehouse or inventory system is too slow and error-prone for Industry 4.0 production environments. Yet conventional automated solutions lack the flexibility to reliably capture data across the diverse geometric container formats of electronic component deliveries. The result? Processing delays that cascade throughout the entire supply chain, merchandise management system bottlenecks, and storage inefficiencies that compromise operational performance and profitability.
Developed specifically for electronics manufacturing operations, WEControlDOME supports complete transparency in container-based incoming goods registration, verifying full documentation from receipt onward. It eliminates much of the manual scanning, counting, and data entry, minimizing human errors and freeing staff for higher-value tasks.
Precision Meets Adaptability
The breakthrough innovation behind WEControlDOME’s performance: automatic capture of each individual container via an integrated SVS-Vistek camera that provides consistent images across objects of varying sizes, colors, geometries and heights.
SVS-Vistek’s solution centers on its exo342MGE monochrome GigE camera—a high-performance industrial imaging powerhouse delivering 31.4 megapixels of resolution (6464 x 4852 px). This robust platform captures barcode and plain text information with exceptional reliability while seamlessly transferring image data to connected PC systems for real-time evaluation and storage.
The SVS-Vistek exo342MGE camera brings proven industrial-grade features to the challenge: an excellent thermal management architecture supporting operating temperatures up to 60°C, integrated versatile light control, global shutter for distortion-free images, and the precision required for demanding logistics, inspection, and other machine vision tasks.
Autofocus for Variable-Height Inspection
A technical challenge for the WEControlDOME was capturing consistent image quality despite varying test object heights. SVS-Vistek’s proprietary SVS-EF adapter was the solution—enabling convenient focus and aperture control of Canon EF-mount lenses directly from the camera. Available in multiple variants for C-mount, M42, and M58 lens mounts, the EF adapter provides compatibility across all EXO, FXO, and HR series cameras from SVS-Vistek.
This innovative adapter equips the camera with true autofocus functionality, creating the conditions for flexible, rapid, and effortless image acquisition of incoming electronic containers regardless of height variations. The result: zero-touch operation that adapts intelligently to real-world receiving dock conditions.
According to Thorsten Schmidt, Chief Product Officer at SVS-Vistek, the SVS-EF adapter exemplifies the evolving demands of modern manufacturing inspection. “In many industrial inspection solutions, fixed focal length lenses are still used. This makes sense in production lines where large quantities of the same part are manufactured and inspected over long periods of time. However, a completely different situation arises when inspecting parts with smaller quantities and frequently changing test objects. In these cases, an inspection solution must be quickly adapted to new products and parameters in order to ensure effective production.”
The Industry 4.0 paradigm shift accelerates this trend toward flexibility. “If, in extreme cases, the batch size drops to a quantity of 1, more flexible solutions are an indispensable prerequisite for the economic success of production companies,” Schmidt emphasizes. “Focusable lenses are an important building block here, as they facilitate the inspection of objects with different geometric dimensions.”
Global Deployment, Proven Reliability
WEControlDOME stations have achieved widespread deployment across the global electronics industry, delivering consistent performance in demanding 24/7 operational environments. “After commissioning, these systems sometimes run in 3-shift operations around the clock and have proven to be very reliable,” confirms Christoph Limpert, Managing Director of CompControl.
The partnership between CompControl and SVS-Vistek extends beyond technology delivery to comprehensive support. “In the rare cases of error, SVS-Vistek has always supported us quickly and solved problems immediately. The good cooperation was already evident in the selection of components and the detailed feasibility studies during the development phase of the WEControlDOME.”
With more than a decade of successful collaboration, CompControl continues to leverage SVS-Vistek image processing technology for applications—a testament to proven performance in manufacturing environments.
Transform Receiving Operations
WEControlDOME represents more than automation—it’s intelligent, adaptive automation engineered specifically for the unique demands of electronics manufacturing. With SVS-Vistek’s advanced vision technology at its core, the system delivers the speed, precision, and flexibility that Industry 4.0 operations demand.
