With the new Magic Tower Compact, Otto Künnecke presents an innovative, compact, and highly flexible component storage system that is specifically tailored to the requirements of medium-sized electronics manufacturers. The system is 2.5 m high and consists of two towers and a combined single and auto I/O module for automatic loading and unloading. The Magic Tower Compact can therefore be easily integrated into existing production environments. With a footprint of just a few square meters, the new Magic Tower Compact provides space for up to 1,200 reels of various sizes and an additional storage area for up to 18 JEDEC trays, which can be stacked and stored exactly as they arrive at the goods receiving department.

“With the new Magic Tower Compact, we offer medium-sized electronics manufacturing companies a powerful solution that combines reliable, smart component storage and picking, state-of-the-art automation technology, ergonomic handling, and digital integration in a compact format. This ensures our customers efficiency, safety, and future-orientation in electronics manufacturing,” explains Niklas Künnecke, Managing Director of Otto Künnecke GmbH.

As Managing Director, Künnecke knows how important it is to make the right investments, especially in tense market situations, and therefore points out that the Magic Tower Compact should not be viewed as a standalone storage system. By picking components in good time and order-related, downtimes are avoided and cycle times optimized, ensuring that placement machines are constantly supplied with the components they need and can operate at full capacity. This increases efficiency and reduces unit costs at the same time. “This results in proven competitive advantages and realizing the full potential of the investment budget. It also protects existing investments, as downtimes and overall production costs can be minimized and output optimized with the Magic Tower Compact before investments in a new placement system are necessary,” emphasizes Künnecke.

A special highlight of the Magic Tower Compact is the integrated pick-by-light shelf, which allows for the temporary storage of up to eight KLT containers. The system presented at productronica includes a pick-by-light system integrated into the Magic Tower Compact. Visually guided picking prevents picking errors, which significantly increases process reliability and efficiency in high-mix, low-volume production. On request, the pick-by-light module is also available as a stand-alone solution, using the same software and MES connection. Thanks to the open interfaces, all common systems can be connected to the Magic Tower Compact, ensuring consistent traceability and a seamless flow of information.

Instead of a classic reel trolley, the Magic Tower Compact uses an innovative conveyor trolley that transports the reels in clearly arranged compartments to the feeder setup station or to the assembly line. The component reels can be retrieved pre-picked, which shortens setup times and significantly optimizes material flow. The combined I/O module allows both manual and automatic loading and unloading of the storage system. “The system thus combines flexibility, space savings, and cost efficiency in a single module,” explains Künnecke.

Similar to the solutions in the Magic Tower series, the Magic Tower Compact impresses with its modular design, which allows for flexible adaptation and expansion. This means that spatial conditions can be considered, as well as future expansion of production and storage capacities. The storage is MSL-compliant, while intelligent kitting functions based on setup lists minimize the error rate in material handling. “In combination with complete traceability, this creates a high level of process reliability and ensures a reliable supply for the production lines,” Künnecke continues.

By participating in productronica 2025, Otto Künnecke GmbH is emphasizing its position as an innovative solution provider for smart component logistics in electronics manufacturing. Visitors will be able to experience the possibilities of automated component storage and customized output concepts live at Booth 404 in Hall A3 and learn how secure and digitally controlled storage processes can sustainably increase efficiency and process reliability in the high-mix, low-volume sector. Otto Künnecke GmbH will be showcasing just one of many possible configurations of the scalable system. Additional storage capacities and flexible layout variants can also be implemented individually depending on requirements.
