Robotas Technologies Ltd., pioneers in Through-Hole Technology (THT) component placement and clinching systems, is proud to celebrate its 40th anniversary, with four decades of groundbreaking advancements in assembly solutions for the electronics manufacturing industry.
Founded in 1985 by Dave Walters, a former Production Director, Robotas began with a revolutionary vision: to create a simple, affordable system that would guide operators in selecting and fitting the correct components to the right places on circuit boards with precision and consistency.
In the early days, Robotas focused on the electronics industry, providing solutions for Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) during a time when through-hole components and hand assembly were critical to production. That vision gave rise to the Mascot system, a tool that transformed hand assembly by improving accuracy and efficiency. The first ‘Mascot 160 System’ featured 16 ten bin trays that would store components, and used lights to indicate which tray the operator should pick from.
Today, Mascot systems are still in active use across prestigious manufacturing facilities around the world, where they continue to play a vital role in producing diverse electronic products with unmatched reliability. Beloved by production engineers for their simple programming, production benefits and durability, and loved by operators for their ease of use and excellent ergonomics; Mascot systems provide consistent quality for critical assemblies in defense, aerospace, and other demanding industries.
Inspired by Dave Walters’ “Right First Time” philosophy, Robotas expanded its reach beyond PCBA into new and exciting territories. This led to the development of Robotas’ ‘Sigma System’, a versatile and advanced hand-assembly solution for mechanical assembly (also known as ‘box build’). Sigma combines cutting-edge visual work instructions, computer-controlled tools, parts dispensing technology, and image and data capture to guide operators through virtually any mechanical assembly process. Featuring video clips, CAD drawings, and document retrieval; Sigma ensures operators use the correct tools and methods at every step, making it a vital solution for modern manufacturing environments.
“Over the past 40 years, we’ve built on our founder’s vision to deliver systems that drive accuracy, efficiency, and reliability in hand assembly processes,” said Nick Walters, Managing Director at Robotas Technologies. “Today, our Mascot and Sigma systems continue to evolve, incorporating new capabilities to meet the complex demands of modern manufacturing. Whether it is integrating with backend systems, offering component placement verification technology or delivering custom configurations, we are committed to helping our customers succeed.”
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our valued customers, suppliers and business partners for their loyalty and support over the past 40 years.”
Looking forward, Robotas is focused on enhancing its Mascot and Sigma systems with advanced features that address the ever-changing needs of manufacturing. By maintaining close partnerships with its customers and leveraging decades of knowledge and practical experience, Robotas is uniquely positioned to deliver innovative solutions that empower production teams worldwide.
