AIM Solder is pleased to announce its participation in the upcoming SMTA Guadalajara Expo and Tech Forum. This event takes place October 7–8 at Expo Guadalajara, Salón Jalisco Halls D & E, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
As AIM celebrates 30 years in Mexico, the event provides an opportunity to recognize three decades of manufacturing, technical expertise, and partnership supporting the country’s electronics industry. As part of the technical program, Gayle Towell of AIM Solder will present “Rethinking Area Ratio: A Physics-Based Model for Predicting Solder Paste Transfer Efficiency for Thin Stencils” on Wednesday, October 7 at 12:30 p.m. Area ratio (AR) is widely used to predict solder paste transfer efficiency (TE), but it can become less reliable with ultrafine pitches and thinner stencils. This study proposes a stencil-thickness-dependent AR model based on the balance between gravitational forces, which scale with paste volume, and adhesive forces, which scale with surface area. Applied to previously published print-test data, the model more accurately predicts TE across varying stencil designs and may help inform future ultrafine printing standards.
