At electronica, Universal Robots shows its new Gen 7 platform for industrial automation and physical AI for the first time in Europe. In Hall A4, booth 431, Teradyne Robotics – the company behind Universal Robots (UR) and Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) – also presents a new mobile manipulator for material transport and for loading workstations, together with AI-based applications for quality inspection and bin picking. From 10 to 13 November, the demonstrations show how parts can be delivered, picked, inspected and tested in electronics manufacturing.
Electronics manufacturers and EMS providers rarely run the same product for long. Short runs, frequent changeovers and strict quality requirements mean automation has to be quick to redeploy, not just fast. Teradyne Robotics’ demonstrations address these challenges by connecting material supply, handling and testing, reducing manual handoffs and supporting early defect detection. Visitors can try the applications themselves and discuss with robotics experts how they could be applied in their own production.
“When we talk to electronics manufacturers, the question is rarely whether to automate – it’s how to automate when the product mix keeps changing,” says Fabian Schäll, Regional Sales Manager DACH at Teradyne Robotics. “At electronica, we show how mobile robots, cobots and machine vision handle that together, from material supply all the way to the test station.”
Gen 7: First stop in Europe and ready to order
Gen 7 is Universal Robots’ seventh-generation platform. It is a unified system upgrade built around the PolyScope X robot operating system, with a fully re-engineered controller, teach pendant and tool flange. Gen 7 adds three AI-ready g-Series robot arms and the CB7 Core controller, which is also compatible with e-Series and UR Series robots.
The new tool flange delivers data, power and safety directly at the flange, making it easier to integrate cameras and sensors for machine vision and AI applications. At the booth, visitors can explore the UR17g-1300, the CB7 Core controller, the TP7 teach pendant, the SP7 Smart Panel and PolyScope X.
The demonstrations at the booth
Material transport and test station loading: A new mobile manipulator transports material and tends a Teradyne offline In-Circuit Tester. It combines mobile robotics and a collaborative robot arm to link material supply with handling, showing how mobile manipulation can automate material movement and machine tending in electronics manufacturing.
AI-based PCB inspection with Cognex: Together with machine vision specialist Cognex, Universal Robots shows an AI-powered optical inspection application for printed circuit boards (PCBs). A camera captures images of the components for visual inspection, so defects can be detected early and faulty components identified before they move on to subsequent manufacturing steps.
AI-based bin picking with Inbolt: With technology partner Inbolt, a robot from the new g-Series picks components from a bin. The parts are presented in different positions, showing how the feeding of randomly positioned components can also be automated.
Robot-assisted RF testing with LitePoint: In a demonstration by Teradyne company LitePoint, a collaborative robot adjusts antenna positions for radio frequency measurements. The application shows how robot-assisted positioning can support repeatable testing processes.
From robot to test, under one roof
The Teradyne group combines expertise in collaborative and mobile robotics with semiconductor and electronics testing. At electronica, the joint booth shows how these technologies complement each other: robots transport materials and handle components, while specialized test systems test electronic components.
Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots will showcase their solutions at electronica in Munich from 10 to 13 November 2026, in Hall A4, Booth 431.
