With the new version 4.11 of its embedded JTAG system software SYSTEM CASCON, GÖPEL electronic is introducing a powerful toolbox for the automatic generation of test programmes. New features include the integration of analogue test instruments via virtual test channels, a new Measurement Widget for displaying measurement results and tolerances, and the ability to visualise all test results in the customisable UUT Status Panel. In addition, improvements have been made to existing tools, such as the ViPX Netlist Explorer, and the VarioTAP model library (processor emulation) has been further expanded. This further optimises the use of GÖPEL electronic’s boundary scan test systems; test programme creation can now be carried out more quickly and efficiently.

SYSTEM CASCON is a fully integrated software platform that enables the fully automated generation of test programmes for boundary scan tests. To this end, the software can, for example, utilise CAD data or netlists and component lists and translate them into interpretable test routines. This allows modern embedded JTAG solutions to be optimised and their full potential to be realised. The system software offers a comprehensive suite of tools for automatic test programme generation, comprising more than 40 different tools. These include, amongst others, boundary scan/IEEE 1149.x testing, processor emulation testing, FPGA-assisted testing and embedded diagnostics testing. Furthermore, SYSTEM CASCON features functions for design validation, debugging and various programming strategies, as well as for interacting with other external test equipment.

The SYSTEM CASCON suite and the automatic test programme generation are based on an extensive model library. This library contains more than 18,000 detailed models. The models contain detailed descriptions of port properties, as well as functional descriptions, and thus form the basis for test programme generation. All models in the CASCON library can be viewed, modified or even created by the user. At the same time, the library contains a wide range of boundary scan blocks

(BSDL – Boundary Scan Description Language), as well as RAM, FLASH, logic and buffer components.

SYSTEM CASCON handles the entire serial test bus protocol. With the help of the integrated tools, a high degree of automation can be achieved, from importing CAD and CAE data through to generating and documenting the finished test programme. The software also provides comprehensive support for verification-based debugging. This means that the development phase in the laboratory, in particular, benefits from the ability to test even the most complex designs right down to system level with minimal effort.

SYSTEM CASCON version 4.11 is now available from GÖPEL electronic.
