Creative Electron, a U.S.-based developer of X-ray and computed tomography (CT) inspection systems, today announced the launch of the TruView™ Prime SDX, a compact benchtop X-ray system designed to bring advanced inspection capabilities to a wider range of electronics manufacturing environments.

The TruView Prime SDX combines high-performance X-ray imaging with a fully viewable 20″ × 20″ inspection area, giving manufacturers the ability to inspect larger assemblies without moving to a full inline system. The platform supports traditional 2D X-ray, advanced 2.5D imaging, and SDX Planar CT, providing detailed visibility into hidden structures and defects within complex electronics.

Designed for today’s increasingly dense and layered assemblies, the system allows for clear inspection of large BGAs, stacked packages, bottom-terminated components, and other challenging designs. By integrating multiple imaging modes into a single benchtop platform, the TruView Prime SDX offers a practical alternative to larger, more expensive CT systems.

AI-powered analysis tools further streamline the inspection process by automatically measuring and quantifying solder quality metrics, including BGA voiding and pad voiding. This helps reduce operator variability while improving inspection speed and consistency.

The system is built with ease of use in mind. Operators can complete a planar CT scan in just three steps, with the ability to save inspection parameters as presets for repeat use. Reporting tools provide clear visualization of defects and trends, supporting faster decision-making in both quality assurance and failure analysis workflows.

“The goal with TruView Prime SDX was to make advanced inspection more accessible without adding complexity,” said Giancarlo De La Garza, Business Unit Director at Creative Electron. “It gives manufacturers the flexibility to move between 2D, 2.5D, and planar CT in one system, while keeping operation straightforward and efficient.”

The TruView Prime SDX is well suited for applications across SMT manufacturing, including quality control, process development, and failure analysis, where visibility into internal structures is critical but space and cost constraints remain a concern.
